Discovering Myself: How Cold Water Therapy Transformed My Life

Twelve years ago, I hit rock bottom. A full mental and physical breakdown led to two serious suicide attempts, and I was diagnosed with Bipolar 1. The road to recovery was long and challenging. I tried countless therapies and methods, desperately seeking balance in my body, mind, and soul. It wasn’t until I discovered the Wim Hof Method that I found a way to truly thrive. The transformation was so profound that I decided to leave behind my career as an Olympic High-Performance Coach, even though I had the privilege of coaching at the Rio & Tokyo Olympics. Today, I dedicate my life to holistic coaching, using the Wim Hof Method as a cornerstone of my work. However my workshops are more than just about mastering cold exposure - they are about rediscovering andmastering yourself.

The Unexpected Power of Breathwork
When people come to my workshops, they often focus on the ice bath. And who wouldn’t? The thought of plunging into freezing water is enough to make anyone nervous. But the real surprise comes when they experience the breathwork. This is where a lot of the transformational magic begins. The breathwork, a vital component of the Wim Hof Method, allows participants to connect deeply with
their bodies and minds. It’s not just about preparing for the cold; it’s about discovering an inner strength that most didn’t know they had. Time and again, participants tell me how the breathwork blew them away, shifting their focus from fear of the ice to the empowerment they feel through controlled breathing.

Embracing the Cold with Clare
I had the pleasure of introducing Clare, one of the founders of Cape Cove, to the Wim Hof Method during a workshop at The Farm in Avebury. Like many, she was apprehensive about the ice bath. But after embracing the breathwork and mindset techniques, Clare not only faced the ice bath but conquered it
with flying colours. She surprised herself so much that she returned months later to take on the advanced ice bath challenge. The advanced workshop isn’t easy - three minutes in the ice, followed by three minutes to refocus, and then another three minutes in the ice. It requires immense mental fortitude and resilience, qualities Clare demonstrated in spades. Watching her progress was a real privilege, seeing her tune into her inner fire, and unlocking that power was beautiful.

Cape Cove: A Perfect Partnership
Cape Cove’s mission to empower women resonates deeply with me, even as a man. Their strapline, "Be daring. Be caring. Be women," captures the essence of what I aim to foster in my workshops: courage, compassion, and self-empowerment. My partner swears by their swimming costumes, which she says are the best-fitting she’s ever had, and their changing robe is a staple for our cold water adventures. I love recommending Cape Cove products to the women in my workshops. If you’re looking for clothing that makes you look and feel your best, Cape Cove is my number one choice.
